Top 10 Small Business Bloggers
Running a small business is the ultimate exercise in continuing education. There's always something new to learn. And if you want to grow your business? Get ready to double your knowledge again.
Fortunately, there is no shortage of information available about small business. But is all of it good?
Ah… no.
But if you’re willing to dig, there are plenty of great small business resources online. So we did some digging for you and turned up some of the best small business bloggers we could find.
These writers are not the major rock stars of business. They’re often small business owners themselves, or people how have been working with small business owners for decades. They come from varied backgrounds and have different specialties.
But they do have one thing in common: They put out a lot of content that’s useful to small business owners. If you don’t know these people yet, we recommend you “meet” them now.
1.Dan Rockwell-
@Leadershipfreak (343K followers)
What’s the #1 challenge in your small business? If you’re like many, it’s hiring and managing employees.
That’s what
Dan Rockwell excels at. His blog, Leadership Freak, is updated almost daily with inspiration and real-world advice on how to keep your employees inspired.
2.Shep Hyken- @Hyken (114K followers)
Shep’s an expert when it comes to small business customer service issues, but he also has a lot to say about managing employees, too. Ends up, the two topics have a lot of overlap.
In addition to the blog, Shep has written several books. They’re all available on his site. And when you get done reading those, also check out
Adrian Swinscoe’s blog. Or his book:
How to Wow.
3.Mike Dillard- @Mike_Dillard (52.2K followers)
Mike Dillard has a blog – and a great blog – but he’s also a podcaster. So if you’re more of a listener than a reader, check out,
Self Made Man.
Mike covers more than “just” small business on the podcast, reaching into lifestyle and health and other topics. While that might seem outside the subject of small business, if you’ve got a small business, you probably already know that everything in your life is connected to it. Your health, your lifestyle choices, your mindset? It all affects your business.
4.Penelope Trunk- @penelopetrunk 133K followers
Penelope Trunk has launched four businesses, and so while she seems more like a personal coach at first, she’s got plenty of experience to advise almost any small business owner (or anyone who wants to become one).
Penelope also does one-off coaching calls for $350 per hour and has some refreshingly radical career advice (like don’t go to grad school). Depending on your own background, you might also be attracted to the idea of talking to someone who’s married to a Wisconsin farmer and is homeschooling their kids – in her spare time. Of course, Penelope’s got a great blog and a couple of courses.
5.Gene Marks-
@genemarks (92K followers)
Gene has his own blog, but he also writes extensively about small business for
The Washington Post, Forbes, Inc, Entrepreneur and other sites. He’s a CPA by trade, and so if you want a financial perspective on things Gene’s definitely someone you should follow. He’s also a regular guest on Fox Business Channel, so you might already know him through that network.
6.Barbara Weltman-
@BarbaraWeltman (26.8K followers)
Barbara is an award-winning small business blogger, and the author of many books, including

7.Reid Hoffman-
@mastersofscale 8.5K followers
Reid is a Co-Founder of LinkedIn, and now focuses his efforts on showing “how famous founders take their companies from zero to a gazillion.” He’s got a blog and podcast.
If you’re among the
39% of small business owners who want to increase revenue this year, this is a blog to be reading. It’s all about growth, and the stories of entrepreneurs who achieved it. The types of companies Reid focuses on tend to be digitally-based, but not exclusively.
8.Nick Loper- @nloper (23.6K followers)
Nick fits into the “micro business” side of small business – perhaps even more into solopreneurship and freelancing. But we wanted to include something for microbusinesses here, and if I had to pick just one blog, Nick’s would be it.
Like many of the bloggers here, he’s also got a podcast, and a book, and a course or two. I’ve admired his content and his business acumen for a while, so it’s nice to be able to give him a hat tip here.
Want another amazing side hustle blog and business expert?
Check out Chris Guillebeau and his blog/podcast/books.
9.Mike Michalowicz- @MikeMichalowicz (33K followers)

10.John Jantsch- @ducttape (117K followers)
John’s a small business marketing expert, but his excellent blog regularly covers every aspect of running a small business. His particular focus is in teaching small business owners how to do marketing more affordably, effectively and efficiently, and he does that
through the website, his books.
If you’d rather just outsource the whole marketing thing, John’s team can help with that too. But look through his blog first to get a sense of his approach.
11.Melinda Anderson- @SmallBizLady (324K followers)
Melinda Anderson has a fantastic blog, especially if you’re in the early stages of planning and launching your business. But she also does WAY more than just write blog posts. Her book is a huge success, as are her TV appearances. She also offers coaching, courses, speaking and more. Her newsletter reaches 3 million people every week. Clearly, she’s doing plenty of things right.
12.Anita Campbell-
@smallbiztrends (143K followers)
Anita’s small business blog has grown so much that it’s now a full-scale publication. And while that tips her into a different category of information (more of a publication for small business owners than an independent blogger), SmallBizTrends.com is so useful that we decided to include it here. But it is absolutely a small business blog, and one of the best.
13.Brian Sutter- @SmallBizBrian (64.8K followers)
Yes, our own Brian Sutter makes this list.
Brian contributes articles to the WASP Small Business blog, Forbes, All Business, Business 2 Community and many other publications. He specializes in content marketing, SEO, employee management, and – of course - inventory management.
