That was the reality for the facilities team at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, before implementing barcode-based asset tracking.
The UNLV facilities team managed its assets without a central system. Asset information was spread across spreadsheets and other manual tracking methods, making it difficult to know what assets the department owned, where they were located, or when they had moved.

The team estimates that it now saves one to two hours a day, or roughly 260 to 520 hours a year, that previously went toward locating assets and finding the information they needed. Staff now have better visibility into asset locations and more accurate records of where assets have been. The university is also planning to expand its use of Wasp Asset to additional departments.
