The Client

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) advances medical education, patient care, and research in Southern Nevada. Through UNLV Health, the school provides patients with access to faculty physicians across a wide range of medical specialties while educating the next generation of physicians.

The Challenge

Before implementing Wasp Asset, the facilities team had no centralized asset management system. Asset information was scattered across spreadsheets and other manual tracking methods, making it difficult to know what assets the department owned, where they were located, or when they had been moved.

The team wanted to establish consistent asset management processes, improve visibility across its facilities, reduce waste, and maintain accurate asset records in one system.

The Solution

The Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine selected Wasp Asset because it met the department’s asset management needs while providing room to grow. Today, the facilities team uses Wasp Asset to manage 535 assets across 78 locations with seven users. Assets include buildings, suites, rooms, life safety equipment, room sensors to monitor space utilization, and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E).

“The implementation was straightforward and easy to follow, and the Wasp training team is awesome,” said Carri Spagnoletta, Manager of Space and Projects for the Space and Facilities Management Team at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.

Barcode labels make it easy to identify assets, record relocations, and maintain a complete history of where equipment has been moved. Reporting also provides greater visibility into asset information.

The Result

Since implementation, Wasp Asset has reduced the time required to locate asset information by more than 98%. Before Wasp Asset, locating asset information in spreadsheets or other files could take 10 to 30 minutes. Today, Spagnoletta can locate an asset in Wasp Asset in about 10 seconds, including the site and location where it can be found.

Spagnoletta estimates that having asset and location information readily available saves her one to two hours each day, or approximately 260 to 520 hours per year.

Barcode tracking also gives the team a historical record of asset relocations, making it easier to manage room sensors and other equipment as they move throughout the organization.

The implementation has also paved the way for broader adoption across the university. While Wasp Asset is currently used by one department, the University of Nevada – Las Vegas plans to expand the system to additional departments after seeing how it has been implemented at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine.

“Wasp is a great option and has helped us tremendously,” said Spagnoletta. “I just want to thank Wasp as a whole for helping us get online and always being communicative.”
